A. The DLOs that I created have definitively increased my technology skill.
B. I find presenting a collection of links and embedded videos in a blog format is clear and organized for the reader AND...
C. eLearning was one of the main topics in the Tech in the 21st course this week. (It just makes sense!)
As for a little bit of background information, we are working to set up an online learning course utilizing a Learning Management System. We had to create digital learning lesson plans and support our plans with digital learning objects this week. Our DLOs could be self created or utilized from other sources. I feel like I have a good combination of both.
Here are the objectives for each of my 3rd Grade Science Lessons:
Lesson 1:
Students will review the difference
between living and nonliving things.
Students will identify the basic
needs of animals and plants.
Lesson 2:
Students will classify animals into groups with similar
characteristics and structures.
Lesson 3:
Students will identify the different stages that animals go
through.
Students
will compare the life cycle of different kinds of animals.
Lesson 4:
Students will define and identify common ecosystems found on
Earth.
Lesson 5:
Students will identify the adapations for survival in animals
ecosystems.
And here are just a few of the DLOs that I have created and/or decided to utilize within my Online Unit focusing on "Nonliving and Living Organisms within given Enviornments".
*1. Vocabulary Documents within Google Docs. (Lessons 1-5)
This DLO will be replicated for each of the five lessons within the unit. This focused vocabulary document offers the student vocabulary represented with written definitions and picture supports. Students with learning disabilities will be able to access the Google Chrome Read and Write App. This app will allow students to have text read to them and the ability to utilize a picture dictionary to look up more pictures or definitions for the word. The particular DLO presented is Lesson Three's vocabulary words.
*2. Quizlet- Flashcards for Vocabulary Development. (Lessons 1-5)
http://quizlet.com/class/675701/
Quizlet is a great resource for vocabulary development. This example of a Digital Learning Object is not just virtual flashcards, but offers teachers and students much more. Each set of flashcards can be set up to include a definition (words) and a picture to connect to the vocabulary term. I chose to do both because my class will include younger students, students who may be struggling readers, and students who may learn better through visual examples. Here is a good tutorial demonstrating all the aspects of quizlet.
(note that this video is not the DLO I am planning to use in my eLearning course, but is a great DLO for teaching teachers how to use Quizlet)
*3. Video Tutorials utilzing Jing and Camtasia- (Classroom Edmodo Tutorial)
Here is an example of a DLO that I have created as a resource for my students and parents for the framework of the online course I am setting up, especially Lesson One. Edmodo is the platform I am using to teach my class, even though it is not technically a Learning Managment System, Edmodo is actually coming together, to be what I feel, a great "beginning" LMS for younger students. I created my resource video using Jing and Camtasia. My title and concluding pages were created in Photoshop. Watching this video will give you a little insight in how I am "setting up" my classroom.
You can sign into a student Edmodo Account here and explore the folders section to view all the DLOs that are connect so far! www.edmodo.com

*4. PhotoStory- A story of Ecosystems: Lesson 4
Microsoft Photostory lends itself very well to creating multi-media slide presentations to reinforce the concept of a given lesson. I created a Photostory presentation as an introduction to ecosystems for Lesson 4 of my unit. I think I was able to provide insight to a broad concept very concretely and concisely. Here is the end result.
5. Discovery Education, TeacherTube, and YouTube Videos (Lessons 1-5- Watch This! Section)
Throughout my lessons I will be using TeacherTube and YouTube as I have in my f2f classroom. I love how easily these videos are to share and really enjoyed learning that you can turn off the recommended videos option when you embed the video into other programs for increased appropriateness for my 3rd graders. As I was exploring options to utilize Discovery Education, I learned that Discovery Ed. has set up the ability for students to create accounts and connect with their classmates and teacher. The teacher can then assign videos to the class this way. If I were working with older students I would take advantage of this option, but for the purposes of my 3rd graders- I have chosen to save and then upload the videos to my Edmodo classroom. Here is an example of one of the videos that I will be using during Lesson One of my unit.
*6. Edu Blog- Classroom Blog Websites- Lessons 1-5
My students will be accessing their own Edu Blog to post their formative assessment assignments after each lesson. Here is the link to the teacher Edu Blog with the assessment for lesson one posted. Students will follow the directions.

In addition to the blog, I am also included another DLO as a resource document. This DLO is a resource document for students and parents to use when setting up a blog for themselves.
This document was taken directly from EduBlogs help documents.
7. Scholastic News Digital Version
I am using a number of Scholastic News Digital Version of their classroom Weekly Readers. Here is the website link for the article I am using in Lesson Two. http://sni.scholastic.com/SN3/03_18_13_SN3/book#/1
This video will be included in the resource folder on Edmodo. I created this video using Jing and Camtasia. Watch it to find out more about the digital version of the SN Weekly Reader.
8. Content Websites and Supporting Websites (Lesson 1-5)
I am using a variety of supporting websites throughtout my unit. Here is an example from Lesson One.

9. Rubrics
Rubrics will be used to grade formative assessments for students. Here is an example of a 3rd grade level rubric that will be used in Lesson One.
I have learned a great deal about DLOs and eLearning this week. It is very timely to set up a course and align the perfect DLO to ensure student understanding and maintain student engagement. DLOs are critical in eLearning and actually would be great to incorporate in a f2f classroom as well! Thank you for taking the time to review my DLOs.
